** This is meant to replace my original Linux guide, however I'm not sure what the policy on completely editing an existing guide is. I made it easier to follow, removed the opinionated sections and added more general useful Linux guides. The original guide is here**

Installing software with Linux
Ubuntu uses the Debian package manager apt-get
Fedora Fedora Core uses the yum package manager.
If you follow the guides provided you should find it quite simple to use the yum and apt-get package managers.

Basic application needs

Some Bit Torrent Clients available for Linux:
Deluge
Transmission
uTorrent
Azureus

Some Media Players for Linux:
Wikipedia has a long list of media players available for linux.
I prefer Totem and MPlayer

Web browsers available for Linux:
Opera
Mozilla
Netscape
Konqueror

There of course are more but these are the most popular. I prefer Mozilla, but Mazuki swears by Opera.

Linux Guides:
There are various Linux resources available to find help, I will list a few sites that provide helpful guides.
Linux Planet has a compilation of many specific guides to various topics regarding Linux, including networking help.
This guide covers everything you need to know about installing Linux and doing the initial setup. The guide goes over different available Linux distributions but covers how to do everything in Ubuntu.
is meant to ease a Windows user into Linux.
For shell command help [url=”http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/”]this guide
will be useful.

Those three guides cover the basics of downloading, creating the iso, and installing Linux. They show you how to use shell commands, and try to ease Windows user into Linux. Remember, if you need help with a specific problem on your distribution you can always check the FAQ provided on their website.

As always feel free to post your question in the Linux Technical Help Section, everyone who has valuable information is more than happy to share. Information belongs to the world after all :)
