Thumbs.db is a database that is created to cache the pictures in the folder where the thumbs.db resides.
Disk space can be saved by deleting it.
You can also turn off this feature and keep Windows from creating these files by doing the following:
Open Windows Explorer.
Click Tools / Folder Options / View.
Under Files and Folders, click the checkbox that says "Do not cache thumbnails."

I think the option to turn it off should be the same in ME as in XP, but try it via Control Panel>Folder Options>View .

There is option to hide it, along with all other system files. But not to turn it off.
I'm sure there is a way, but oh well. I only use thumbnail view in a few folders, and I delete the .db's pretty often I guess I'll just keep doing that.

It's just necessary to find the folder views slimpickens93...unfortunately, I don't know ME ... so don't know whether it exists or not.

It should exist in folder options in ME also. Unfortunatlely, I don't have any ME loaded machines here at the moment to test it out.

Yeah, it's not there in ME.
I tried XP a few different times, I just didn't like it.
Vista...or whatever Gates is gonna call it should be finished soon. I'll just wait and see if it's worth movin' up to.

You may be able to change this setting in the Registry:
Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
Double-click the DisableThumbnailCache value, or go to Edit -> New -> DWORD value to create a new value by that name.
Enter 1 for its value.
Click Ok and close the Registry Editor when you're done; you'll have to reboot for this to take effect.
Unfortunately I have no way of testing this as I don't have Windows ME.
good luck.

I shoulda looked at this one earlier. steviweavi's method will work for both operating systems.
Little easier on the eyes format for ya:
Start
Run
"regedit"
In the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Explorer
Advanced
Window on the right:
DisableThumbnailCache
Right click
Modify
In the "Value Data" line change the "0" to a "1".
Without quotations on everything above.
Hope that helps.
PS If you do use thumbnails regularly or just occassionally, you don't want to do this. It's almost as bad as clearing our your Prefetch everyday. Makes your PC sluggish and unresponsive when trying to do things you do everyday.
